Have you been wanting to add some STEAM learning in your classroom or home but not sure where to start? Try these Positive STEAM challenge cards, where STEAM learning meets a positive growth mindset. Easy STEAM activities are the best especially those that can be done on a go and are perfect for travel as well.

We were inspired by the Positive challenge cards and drew a challenge card. The challenge was to build a fort or a Button tower, we chose to start with the button tower. With just a few simple supplies  lying around the house, you can try this fun Button Tower STEAM Activity with your kids and help them exercise their fine motor skills and build STEAM skills .

This activity can be used in preschools, kindergartens or at home. You can use them as busy activities or as station work. Either way, it is a great engineering challenge that can be done by early years and little learners. All you need is some buttons and playdough.

Now let’s get STEAM-ing!

How to Build Button Towers

What you need:
  • Buttons
  • Playdough
How to:

Using the items mentioned above challenge your little learner to build a button tower. The challenge is to build a structure that stands without any support and does not fall over.

  1. Stack the buttons without playdough. How many buttons can you stack? Which buttons are easier to stack?
  2. Now try stacking with playdough. How many buttons can you stack now?
  3. Add some measurement challenges, Measure the height of your tower every time you build it. Can you build an even taller tower?
  4. How about creating a structure that can hold items.

This Button Tower STEAM activity is a great way to practice some engineering and math skills. Learning engineering skills through play is a lot of fun and a great hands-on way to understand complicated concepts. Happy building my friends!
